What a day spent chasing this great beast, I photographed it first at the lock and damn before coming into Ozark, then at the depot as it was leaving, and then a little drive down Interstate 40 into Dyer with 5 minutes to spare as it came blowing past at a speed that was something to behold. The rumble and quake as this great beast made up time, I still have grit in my mouth when it blew by giving a thrill as I have never experienced, It reminded me of a story I heard from a gentleman in Marshal, Texas just a few days before, telling of when he encountered it in the 1940s as a kid as it rumbled by and made the earth shake, making him grab a tree to keep from falling down. Today I experienced what 1.2 million lbs of monster felt like as it blew by at 60 plus. A memory that will stay with me forever. Thank you to Union Pacific for giving life to our past.
