Sam's Throne at Sunset - Mt Judea, Arkansas - Ozark National Forest - Fall 2018
I was inspired by a photo from this area the previous year and had set myself a goal to do it better, not knowing that it would not be an easy task. My first try was at the beginning of Fall and I had made a decision to drive up that night before and set up my tent for a beautiful sunrise shot. Unfortunately, it was not meant to happen, and I did freeze that night with 30-degree temps and 15 mph winds. Attempt 2, 3, and 4 did not go much better with the color still not cooperating. So 2 weeks ago I left my home from Mena and drove straight to the location, the only problem was the worst fog ever, but I charged through just the same, having to use my GPS to even find the sign. lol So being the only person there, I decided to just shoot cool trees into the fog, after an hour or so the fog lifted and I jogged back to this location and then the sun up-lit the clouds, it was overwhelming beauty and magic. I found myself still standing there taking it all in and realized it was dark and I with no flashlight. Back at the truck, I called my wife to tell here I was heading back home. As I drove back to the entrance the fog was waiting and so I got to again drive 3 1/2 hours back in the fog with all valleys completely fogged in but this one. It was an unreal and amazing experience, and I was so glad that I stayed with it and didn't give up.
